^ ^ Chelsea suffer major Raphinha blow with Barcelona ready to meet Leeds demands with £60m offer

Barcelona are ready to launch a bid worth up to £60million for Raphinha that could end Chelsea’s hopes of signing the Leeds United star.

Chelsea appeared to be on the brink of signing the Brazil international after agreeing a fee of £55m rising to £60m with Leeds on Monday.

Arsenal had been hopeful of signing the winger but Chelsea’s far superior offer left them leading the race for his signature.

While Raphinha is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, his first choice has been a move to Barcelona.

But with the Catalan giants under financial pressure, they have so far been unable to make a bid that meets Leeds’ demands.

However, The Times now report Barcelona are now ready to launch an offer worth £51m up front with a further £9m to follow in add-ons.

Raphinha’s agent, former Chelsea midfielder Deco, met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Wednesday where the deal was discussed.

Barcelona are now hopeful of getting the deal done – with Raphinha’s desire to move to the Camo Nou a key factor.

Barcelona find themselves in a position where they can fund fund the move after agreeing a deal on Thursday to sell 10 per cent of their La Liga TV rights for the next 24 years – a move that will see them net an initial figure of £179m.

While Barcelona is Raphinha’s preferred destination, the report adds there is also interest from an unnamed European club who are competing in next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal saw a bid of £35m rejected by Leeds last week.

^*^ Raphinha latest: Barcelona’s latest bid knocked back as Leeds push attacker towards Chelsea

A fresh insight into the future of in-demand Leeds United star Raphinha has been provided late on Thursday evening.

The name of wide-man Raphinha has, of course, taken its place front and centre in the English media headlines for several weeks now.

This comes with the Brazilian international attracting the interest of not only the heavyweights of the Premier League, but European football as a whole.

Initially, it was Spanish powerhouse Barcelona who were viewed as the odds-on favourites to strike a deal for the gifted attacker, with boss Xavi Hernandez desperate for reinforcements on the right flank ahead of the new campaign.

Since, though, both Arsenal and, most recently, Chelsea, have positioned themselves at the front of the queue in the race for Raphinha’s signature.

So, where does the situation stand at present?

Well, as alluded to above, an insight into as much has been provided on Thursday evening.

The info comes courtesy of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who has reiterated the fact that it is Chelsea, as things stand, who remain frontrunners to land Raphinha.

Barcelona, over the last 24 hours, are understood to have returned to the table with a fresh proposal for Leeds’ explosive winger.

The offer in question, however, came up well short of the demands of those in a position of power at Elland Road, who were quick to make it clear that they had ‘no intention’ of accepting.

This comes with Leeds eager to respect a transfer agreement already struck with their counterparts at Stamford Bridge.

The hold-up, however, comes owing to Raphinha himself continuing to hold out for a move to Spain with Barca, who are expected to mount a concerted push for a key summer target ‘until the end’.

^*^ Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler labels move for Darwin Nunez as a transfer ‘gamble’

Liverpool fans have been left feeling optimistic this summer after their beloved Reds have aggressively tackled the transfer market this summer when the club spent ~£65million on Uruguayan hitman Darwin Núñez to replace former star man Sadio Mané.

With the blockbuster deal potentially reaching ~£87million after possible add-ons, it would constitute the most expensive deal in the club’s history; a notion that club legend Robbie Fowler has labeled a ‘gamble.’

In quotes sourced by the Liverpool Echo, Fowler spoke positively about the deal despite the moment of pause surrounding what the former Benfica star would bring to the table at Anfield in the upcoming 2022-23 Premier League season.

“From a Liverpool point of view, they have gone out there to spend money. They’ve lost a player, Sadio Mane, which is disappointing. They got money for him, so they’ve received more money than they’ve spent five [or] six years ago. Probably good business for the club.”

“Let’s be honest, it probably is a bit of a gamble. Any player going into any club is a bit of a gamble. It is a gamble I’m more than happy to take.”

“I think when Liverpool is signing players, the signs and the infrastructure about these players, I think it is relentless. I think what they do, how they look into the player; how his mindset is, how his family life is, and how his life outside of football is, it is all taken into consideration.”

Fowler also posed the notion that the new Liverpool frontman could be under far more pressure than fellow Premier League new boy Erling Haaland as the two are set to be hotly-tipped to go toe-to-toe for the golden boot this season.

“I know Manchester City is thinking exactly the same thing with Erling Haaland. I hope Nunez does [better than Haaland] in all fairness. But I think he is more of a gamble for Liverpool as opposed to Haaland for Manchester City.”

“Regardless of Haaland being at City, I think they still have other players who can score goals. As much as they are probably similar players, the teams are totally different.”

Given the influence that Mané brought to the table during his fantastic spell at Anfield, Núnez certainly will have big shoes to fill moving forward.

But the Uruguayan can bank on a fantastic goal record during the 2021-22 Liga Portugal season, smashing 26-goals in just 28-appearances.

With Luis Díaz and Mohammed Salah on either side of him, and the likes of Thiago pulling the strings from midfield, Núñez should take no time at all to have the Kop rocking.

^ ^ Erik ten Hag hopeful of making five Man Utd signings with club ready to offload nine as part of summer clear-out

Erik ten Hag remains hopeful of making five new signings for Manchester United this summer – with as many as nine set to leave as part of a major clear-out.

United have agreed a deal to sign Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord while they have also agreed a fee in principle with Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong – ten Hag’s top target.

Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez is also on the manager’s wanted list along with his club teammate Antony. United have also offered Christian Eriksen a contract.

United have already bid farewell to Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Edinson Cavani, who have left Old Trafford following the end of their contracts.

But Goal report there could be nine more exits before the summer transfer window closes.

Some will have the opportunity to impress the manager during pre-season with Anthony Martial and Aaron Wan-Bissaka hoping to make an instant impression.

United are ready to listen to offers for Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Axel Tuanzebe, Alex Telles and Brandon Williams – with the imminent arrival of Malacia further hampering the first-team prospects of the latter two.

Fulham meanwhile are in talks to sign Andreas Pereira while Dean Henderson is on the verge of sealing a season-long loan move to Newcastle United.

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future has also come under scrutiny in recent weeks but United insist the 37-year-old will not be going anywhere this summer.

United were back in training this week and will fly out for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia that will include friendlies against Liverpool, Melbourne Victory, Crystal Palace and Aston Villa on 8 July.

^*^ Pedri’s new Barcelona squad number revealed

FC Barcelona prodigy Pedri is set to don a new squad number from next season on, it has been revealed.

The info comes courtesy of Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, who point towards the midfielder’s ever-increasing importance to the Blaugrana cause being imminently recognised.

To this point, since exploding onto the scene in the Catalan capital on the back of his arrival from Las Palmas in the summer of 2020, Pedri has taken to the pitch with the number 16 emblazoned across his back.

Pedri’s new Barcelona squad number revealed

As confirmed on Thursday, though, moving forward, the 19-year-old will don the number eight shirt as part of Xavi Hernandez’s ranks.

This past season saw Dani Alves act as Barca’s no. eight, but the Brazilian’s free agent exit means that the shirt has since become available.

And it will now be taken on by a player altogether more suited to the traditions of an 8, with Pedri, of course, one of world football’s finest up-and-coming box-to-box midfielders.

Those of a Blaugrana persuasion will now be hopeful of their breakthrough sensation following in the footsteps of a player whom many would no doubt argue represents the greatest to have ever worn the number eight at the Camp Nou, in the form of Andres Iniesta.

Elsewhere on the Barcelona front, a former member of the Catalans’ ranks has today been tipped for a shock return to the club.

The player in question? Arthur Melo.

^*^ Ruben Neves to stay put as Wolves’ hefty demands scare off Man United and more

Word stemming from the English media on Thursday points towards Wolverhampton Wanderers doing enough to ward off any and all summer suitors of star midfielder Ruben Neves.

Portuguese international Neves is of course fresh off another fine campaign.

Prior to picking up a long-term injury problem late in March, the 25-year-old had featured in all but two of Wolves’ Premier League fixtures, continuing to conduct proceedings with near-incomparable poise from his deep-lying midfield berth.

Not only that, but Neves’ contributions proved telling further up the pitch, too, en route to four goals and two assists across his 31 starts.

And such efforts, in turn, have led to altogether inevitable fresh speculation that Wolves’ star man has been added to the summer wishlists of a number of English football’s heavyweights.

Arsenal and Manchester United have long been tipped as the most likely landing spots for Neves, keen to add a proven high-level performer to their respective ranks in the middle of the park ahead of next season.

Spanish giants Barcelona, meanwhile, are too understood to be long-term admirers.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest speculation doing the rounds on Thursday is anything to go by, then Wolves appear to have done enough to keep hold of their engine room metronome for at least another season.

As per a report from The Sun, the aforementioned trio of suitors have ‘been put off by Wolves’ eye-watering demands’.

The Midlands outfit, it is understood, informed interested clubs this month that it would require an offer in the region of £75 million to lure Neves away from Molineux.

Another key member of Wolves’ midfield ranks, though, could yet be on the move over the weeks ahead, with AS Roma boss Jose Mourinho having set his sights firmly on the signature of fellow countryman Joao Moutinho.

^*^ Chelsea bound? Thiago Silva attempts to convince Neymar as PSG future remains unclear

The future of Brazilian icon Neymar looks to be up in the air after ties between the Santos youth product and Paris Saint-Germain appear to be severed beyond repair.

Reports in Le Parisien via Get French Football have stated that Neymar is ‘very likely’ to leave the French capital this summer, with the Parisians happy to allow the Brazilian star to leave on a loan deal.

“Neymar’s father and his agent Pini Zahavi are in constant contact with the PSG management. Club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has indicated in a recent interview with the outlet that it was the end of the “bling-bling” era at PSG, comments which Neymar’s team thought were aimed at him.” (GFFN)

With PSG looking for a potential suitor that would be willing to cover at least the bulk – if not all – of his current wage packet, fellow Brazilian Thiago Silva has embarked on a campaign to try to convince Neymar to join him at Stamford Bridge under German tactician Thomas Tuchel after remaining in regular contact with his compatriot over a possible escape route to west London.

Though a potential move for Neymar is unlikely to materialize however after Chelsea has already begun to push for Leeds United talisman Raphinha, while new club owner Todd Boehly also is a big admirer of Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembélé.

Neymar is also said to not prefer a move away from PSG, but with Nasser Al-Khelaifi adamant about changing the culture inside the club under new manager Christoph Galtier, there could still be a possible summer move for the iconic forward.

^ ^ Arsenal hero Jack Wilshere has held talks over return to club as youth coach

Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere has been in talks with former club Arsenal over a possible return as a coach of one of their youth sides.

The 30-year-old may well be at the end of his playing days after a short spell with Danish side Aarhus last season and little sign of a new contract elsewhere.

He has been open of his desire to move into coaching and the Gunners are in need of new appointments in their youth ranks.

Kevin Betsy left his position as Under-23s manager to take charge of Crawley Town in League Two and Under-18s boss Dan Micchie left with him to become his assistant.

With vacancies needing to be filled, the Evening Standard report that Arsenal have held talks with Wilshere through academy chief Per Mertesacker.

There has been nothing more than talks so far, with the club also considering internal candidates for the roles vacated by Betsy and Micchie.

While looking for a new club last season Wilshere trained with the Arsenal first team and did some work with the Under-23 and Under-18 sides, which encouraged him to return to do more of the same in future.

‘I think I would love to go back to Arsenal and coach, once I have fully made that decision,’ Wilshere said on the prospect of not playing again.

‘That decision might be in a week. It might be in two years. If I don’t get a club to play for, before pre-season or halfway through pre-season, I am not going to go to Arsenal to keep my fitness up, because then I would feel that I am holding onto something that is not there. With a coaching role, maybe. We will see.

‘When I went back to Arsenal I was coaching every day with the under-18s and 23s, I loved every minute of it. I really enjoyed being back on the pitch and coaching.’

Frenkie de Jong is prepared to join Manchester United this summer.

Erik ten Hag has made the 25-year-old midfielder his top target ahead of his first season in charge with United locked in talks over a fee with Barcelona in recent weeks.

While Barcelona have been prepared to sell for the right price to finance their own summer spending, the biggest issue was thought to be convincing de Jong to leave the Camp Nou.

The Dutchman has described the Catalans as his ‘dream club’ with fears United’s failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League would be another major stumbling block.

Reports in Spain have claimed de Jong has told Barcelona and United that he has no intention of moving this summer.

However, The Guardian claim that is not the case and report de Jong is ‘minded to sign for United’ and is ready to reunite with his former Ajax boss ten Hag in Manchester.

A an initial fee of £56.2m with add-ons that could take the price up to £73.3m has been agreed in principle with the focus now on agreeing personal terms with de Jong.

Elsewhere, United are thought to be on the brink of signing Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia.

The Netherlands international was on the brink of sealing a move to Lyon before United swooped in with their offer.

Malacia has already informed Lyon that he has picked the Premier League as his next destination.

Manchester United are prepared to let Alex Telles, Brandon Williams and Alvaro Fernandez leave the club this summer once the signing of Tyrell Malacia is complete.

United are on the verge of completing a deal for the Feyenoord left-back after launching a late bid for the 22-year-old on Monday night.

Lyon have also agreed a fee with Feyenoord but the Netherlands international has informed the Ligue 1 side he wants to join Erik ten Hag’s side with talks over personal terms progressing well.

United are now expected to wrap up their first signing of the Ten Hag era in the coming days.

Malacia is expected to compete with Luke Shaw for a first-team role next season with The Times reporting Telles and Williams will be moved on as a result.

Telles joined United from Porto in 2020 for a reported fee of £15m, with the club ready to listen to offers for the 29-year-old.

Academy product Williams, 21, is also set to leave with United considering loan and permanent offers for the player who spent last season with Norwich City.

Malacia’s arrival could also see academy star Fernandez look elsewhere for first-team opportunities.

The former Real Madrid youngster will be given the chance to impress ten Hag on the upcoming pre-season tour but the Manchester Evening News report a loan could be on the cards following a new arrival at left-back.

Fernandez was named United’s Under-23 Player of the Year last term was included in the senior squad four times under Ralf Rangnick towards the end of the campaign.

The report adds there is already interest from Championship sides in the 19-year-old.

^ ^ Arsenal defender Daniel Ballard agrees permanent move to Sunderland

Daniel Ballard has agreed a move to Championship side Sunderland, after a switch to Burnley fell through last week.

The 22-year-old has spent time on loan at Swindon Town and Blackpool before making 31 appearances in the Championship for Millwall last season.

The Northern Ireland international has never made a first team appearance for the Gunners and his stay at the club is close to an end as he prepares to move north.

The Athletic report that Ballard very nearly joined Burnley a week ago but terms could not be agreed despite significant talks taking place.

The likes of former club Blackpool and Sheffield United were thought to be interested in the defender, but it is newly-promoted Sunderland who have won the race for his signature.

Despite never making the cut for Arsenal, Ballard has proved himself on the international stage, already picking up 15 caps for Northern Ireland and scoring two goals.

Former Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley reckoned Ballard was good enough to play in the Arsenal defence last season, especially after the Gunners had made a disappointing start to the season.

‘If I were Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, I’d be recalling Daniel Ballard from his loan spell at Millwall and placing the young Northern Ireland international in my struggling Gunners team,’ he told the Belfast Telegraph in September last year.

‘I know Daniel isn’t Mikel’s type of defender — he probably doesn’t match his philosophy in how he wants the game to be played — but maybe he should be with the way Arsenal have started their season.

‘Daniel just keeps on getting better and better with every game he plays in, especially on the international scene.’

^*^ Everton star in talks over contract renewal ahead of summer uncertainty

Everton are in talks with Jordan Pickford over extending the contract of England’s no.1 this summer in order to tie him down to the club for the foreseeable future.

Pickford was a key reason that the Toffees survived this season, turning in a string of fine performances and a series of fine saves to ensure that the club had a chance heading into the final games of the season, including a save of the season contender against Chelsea in a game that they won 1-0.

His current deal at Goodison Park runs out in 2024, and there was speculation at the turn of the year that Tottenham were considering making a move for him as competition for Hugo Lloris.

However, as per the Telegraph, the player and Everton are locked in talks over potential renewing a deal for the 28-year-old, which would keep him at Everton for the prime of his goalkeeping career.

Regardless of the outcome, Pickford is expected to stay at Everton this summer as he looks to hold onto his no.1 spot in the England side for the upcoming Qatar World Cup amid competition from the likes of Nick Pope, Dean Henderson and Aaron Ramsdale.

Richarlison latest

Meanwhile, it seems as though Tottenham are closing in on a deal for Toffees forward Richarlison

It remains unclear as to whether other players will be involved in the deal, with rumours of Harry Winks and Steven Bergwijn both having been offered to the Merseyside outfit, while Tottenham are also thought to be keen on Anthony Gordon.

Unless something drastic changes, however, it seems as though Richarlison will be making the move to north London this summer.

Tottenham’s summer signing Yves Bissouma has been cleared of sexual assault allegations after an arrest on 6 October last year.

Bissouma and a man in his 40s were arrested after police were called to a Brighton nightclub last October.

The midfielder was released on bail and continuted to play for Brighton and went to the Africa Cup of Nations to represent Mali.

Now police have confirmed that no further action will be taken against the 25-year-old, although the other man remains on bail.

A Sussex Police spokesman told Sportsmail: ‘A man in his 40s from Brighton who was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault has had his conditional bail extended until July 4, 2022.

‘The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available at this time.’

Bissouma made a £25m move from Brighton to Spurs this summer and is excited to join the team with Champions League football ahead of them this season.

Romelu Lukaku is set to land in Milan tonight ahead of completing his loan move back to Inter Milan.

The Blues spent just shy of £100m bringing the Belgian back to Stamford Bridge for a second spell last summer, but after a torrid season in which Lukaku struggled and manager Thomas Tuchel failed to find a way to fit him into his 3-4-3 system, the striker is set to return to former club Inter once again in a loan deal which will see Chelsea recoup less than £10m.

Lukaku had spearheaded the Inter attack under previous manager Antonio Conte, scoring 64 goals in 95 league appearances to guide the Nerazzurri to their first Serie A title since 2009.

Chelsea spent £97million on Romelu Lukaku last summer

On Tuesday afternoon, Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta confirmed that Lukaku is due in Milan imminently to complete his move, telling reporters outside an Italian Football Federation meeting in Rome that Lukaku will arrive ‘this evening, I think.’

The 29-year-old has accepted a significant pay cut in order to return to Inter, after toiling in his second spell at Chelsea, having first been on the club’s books between 2011 and 2014.

In 44 appearances last season, Lukaku managed to score 15 goals, but only eight of those strikes came in the Premier League. He scored twice to help Chelsea become world champions for the first time in February when they won the FIFA Club World Cup in the United Arab Emirates, but was frequently left out of the side in favour of non-strikers like Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic in the latter stages of the campaign.

Lukaku will become yet another player Chelsea have lost on a cut-price deal this summer, with defenders Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger already having left for free at the end of their contracts.

At the end of last year, Lukaku conducted an interview with Sky Italia in which he expressed regret at having left Inter, leaving Tuchel furious. Lukaku was subsequently left out of the squad which drew at home to Liverpool in Chelsea’s next match.

Chelsea are understood to be trying to negotiate a deal for both Raheem Sterling and Nathan Ake from Manchester City in order to reinforce their squad.

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Feyenoord left-back Tyrell Malacia with his move to Old Trafford now ‘imminent’.

Erik ten Hag is eager to add the 22-year-old to his squad ahead of the new season but reports have suggested United were prioritising a deal for Frenkie de Jong before moving onto other targets.

Malacia is also wanted by Newcastle United and Lyon with the Ligue 1 side agreeing a fee of €15million with Feyenoord.

A deal to take the Netherlands international to France was thought to be all but completed but United are now close to hijacking that deal.

Voetbal International report Feyenoord also agreed a deal with the Premier League side on Monday night. The decision is now down to Malacia to choose between United and Lyon.

Feyenoord sporting director Frank Arnesen has also confirmed an agreement is in place with United.

‘The agreement is there,’ Arnesen said. ‘We are now waiting for Tyrell [Malacia]. If he says yes, then a transfer to Manchester United is imminent.’

Malacia also shares an agent with de Jong, who United are hopeful of signing in the coming weeks.

United are thought to be close to agreeing a £68million deal with Barcelona with ten Hag making the Netherlands midfielder his top target this summer.

Malacia meanwhile is said to fit the bill in what ten Hag is looking for in his United squad – young, hungry players who are eager to impress.

Ten Hag tried to sign the Netherlands international for Ajax last summer but the intense rivalry between the Amsterdam club and Feyenoord meant no deal could be done.

United had hoped to sing another Dutchman in Ajax star Jurrien Timber this summer, with the United boss identifying the 21-year-old as a ‘future captain’.

The versatile defender however appears ready to reject United’s advances and remain at Ajax for at least one more season.

Former Liverpool star Luis Suarez is reportedly set to sign for Argentinian club River Plate to replace Manchester City bound striker Julian Alvarez.

Suarez is set to leave Atletico Madrid on 1st July when his contract with the La Liga side expires and according to Mundo Deportivo, River Plate are very keen to snap up the 35-year-old.

‘[Suarez] is an elite player, who is currently recovering from a knee injury,’ the club’s manager Marcelo Gallardo said on Sunday.

‘We made the attempt, he has the will, enthusiasm, it’s good. If he hadn’t shown enthusiasm, we wouldn’t be here waiting.

‘It will be a decision and when it is possible, we will see if it is feasible. You don’t have to lie to people or generate a lot of enthusiasm.’

However, other reports suggest that while an offer has been made Suarez is yet to come to a decision on his future and will take his time before choosing what to do next.

River Plate are in the market for a new striker with Alvarez set to link up with City next month.

The 22-year-old signed for Pep Guardiola’s side back in January before returning on loan to his boyhood club, and his form at River Plate will be hard to replicate having scored 53 goals in 119 games for the club since 2018.

The Argentinian international will be part of the Citizen’s new-look forward line, following the signing of Erling Haaland and the departure of Gabriel Jesus and potentially Raheem Sterling who continues to be linked to Chelsea

Suarez is regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation having had prolific and trophy-laden spells at Ajax, Liverpool, Barcelona, and Atletico, scoring a total of 452 goals in 730 games across his entire club career.

The Uruguay has also been linked with moves to Aston Villa, Atalanta and Inter Miami.

^*^ Chelsea readying fresh player exchange deal for Matthijs de Ligt

Word stemming from the media on Monday evening points towards Premier League giants Chelsea readying a fresh proposal for Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are of course known to be on the lookout for reinforcements at the heart of the club’s backline this summer, on the back of the free agent departures of both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen.

In turn, after previously focusing their attentions on Sevilla standout Jules Kounde, the powers that be in west London have since shifted their sights to Turin, with de Ligt understood to be high on the club’s wishlist.

An opening offer for the Dutch stopper is even understood to have been lodged on the part of the transfer team at Stamford Bridge, late last week.

The proposal in question was based around a cash sum, on top of the services of Timo Werner.

Juve, however, opted to knock the bid back, amid suggestions that the powers that be at the Allianz Stadium are only interested in straight cash offerings.

If the latest word doing the rounds on Monday evening is anything to go by, though, then, evidently, Chelsea have not yet been deterred in their hopes of ultimately bringing de Ligt’s hefty price down, by means of a player exchange.

As per a report from Juventus transfer expert Romeo Agresti, fresh contact on the part of the Blues is expected in Turin over the coming days.

This comes with Thomas Tuchel and co. ‘pushing’ for the Old Lady’s star defender.

Not only that, but it is also suggested that Chelsea’s next proposal will too include some ‘technical counterparts’, potentially ranging from Christian Pulisic, to Hakim Ziyech, to Jorginho.

^*^ Details: West Ham announce signing of Alphonse Areola

Premier League outfit West Ham United have, on Monday, confirmed the club’s 2nd signing of the summer transfer window.

The latest player to have taken his talents to the English capital ahead of the 2022/23 campaign? Alphonse Areola.

Shot-stopper Areola of course spent this past season on loan at the London Stadium, acting as backup for first-choice Lukasz Fabianski.

Evidently, though, across limited game-time, the Frenchman did enough to prove his talents to boss David Moyes, having today seen the powers that be at West Ham opt to make his arrival a permanent one.

As per a series of posts across the club’s website and social media platforms, Areola has committed his long-term future to the Irons, putting pen to paper on a contract through the summer of 2027.

Speaking on the back of his return to east London being made official, the 29-year-old revealed:

“I feel good, I feel great, I’m happy to sign and happy to stay here permanently and I can’t wait to start to train and to do the job.”

“The main thing is that I felt the love of the supporters last season. Something for me that is really important is to feel that I’m loved. I know that I have to do my job and to do everything to make them happy, and obviously also the team, my teammates, the staff and Xavi Valero as well. The vibe of last season was great, so I just wanted to do everything to stay here.

“I feel comfortable, I feel like when I’m signing in a club, I want to feel that it’s like my second family. Obviously, we’re here every day and we are sharing lots of times together, so I have to feel comfortable with everyone and feel them comfortable with me as well, so I just feel comfortable here.”

Areola’s signing is understood to have set West Ham back a fee in the region of £10.5 million.

The goalkeeper marks the 2nd summer reinforcement to David Moyes’ ranks, on the back of the big-money addition of highly-regarded defender Nayef Aguerd earlier this month.

And further new faces are expected to follow in short order, amid speculation in the media that the capital outfit remain keen on the services of all of Jesse Lingard, Armando Broja, Arnaut Danjuma and James Ward-Prowse.

^*^ Juventus and Barcelona-linked Angel Di Maria finally comes to decision on future

Soon-to-be free agent Angel Di Maria has, on Monday, finally come to a definitive decision on his future beyond the summer.

Argentine international Di Maria, of course, has seen his name take centre stage across the European media over the course of the last couple of weeks.

This comes with the 34-year-old having faced a decision when it comes to his next landing spot, ahead of the expiration of his contract in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

To this point, the club most hotly tipped as a potential landing spot for Di Maria had long been Italian giants Juventus.

After falling well short in the Scudetto race for the 2nd year running, and with all of Paulo Dybala, Federico Bernardeschi, Alvaro Morata and Moise Kean in line to depart Turin this summer, the Bianconeri view Di Maria as necessary proven quality in the final third.

And yet, despite lengthy negotiations between the two parties, the transfer team at the Allianz Stadium had, to this point, been left frustrated in their attempts to finalise an agreement with the veteran winger.

Such frustration on Juve’s part came with outlets in Spain having continued to push the line that Di Maria was holding out hope for a return to La Liga with Barcelona.

Any wishes on the part of the Blaugrana faithful of seeing the South American star lining out in the club’s colours next season, though, today appear to have been brought to an end.

This comes with Di Maria, finally, understood to have given his word to Juventus, over a move to Turin.

As per Bianconeri transfer expert Romeo Agresti, the one-time Real Madrid man ‘has accepted Juve’s proposal’, with the two parties, as a result, working to finalise the fine details of a contract.

Di Maria is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year deal in Italy, featuring the option for a 2nd.

Sterling has already held positive discussions with Blues boss Thomas Tuchel over how he would be utilised at Stamford Bridge, with that conversation solidifying his desire to leave City.

^*^ Why Christian Eriksen is stalling on Man United move

A fresh insight into the stance of soon-to-be free agent Christian Eriksen when it comes to the possibility of linking up with Manchester United this summer has been provided.

The last couple of weeks, of course, have seen speculation rampant in the media that the Red Devils are keen on adding Danish international Eriksen to the club’s ranks with a view to next season.

This comes with the 30-year-old fresh off a stellar stint back in England with Thomas Frank’s Brentford over the 2nd half of last season.

With his short-term deal in west London due to come to a close at the end of the month, though, Eriksen’s intentions for the 2022/23 campaign have long been unclear.

But, on Monday, an insight into as much has been provided.

The info comes courtesy of David McDonnell of The Mirror, who suggests that, despite reports to the contrary, Eriksen has not closed the door on the possibility of making the move to Old Trafford.

The midfielder, instead, is understood to be keeping United waiting, keen to see the calibre of player which arrives through the door on the red half of Manchester over the coming weeks.

The insinuation, in turn, is that, should Eriksen be sufficiently impressed by the level of reinforcements to new boss Erik ten Hag’s squad, he will then take into serious consideration committing to the terms of a contract with the Red Devils.

Jesus to become Arsenal’s latest summer signing (Picture: Getty)

Gabriel Jesus has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and is now set to join the Gunners in a £45million deal.

Arsenal agreed a fee with Manchester City on Friday and have now agreed a contract until 2027 with the Brazil international, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Tottenham, Chelsea and Real Madrid have also expressed interest in signing Jesus but the 25-year-old is now poised to become Arsenal’s fourth signing of the summer following goalkeeper Matt Turner, forward Marquinhos and midfielder Fabio Vieira, who completed a £34m move from Porto last week.

Jesus is expected to become Arsenal’s first-choice striker next season following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette this summer, with Eddie Nketiah also in the equation.

Jesus has scored 95 goals in 236 appearances for City and has won four Premier League titles since arriving in England five years ago.

Mikel Arteta worked with the player while he was Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Man City and is said to have been a key factor in Jesus’ decision to head to the capital.

Arsenal are also hoping to wrap up a deal to sign his countryman Raphinha from Leeds United.

The north London side have also held interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans since the start of the year.

In recent weeks however the Gunners have cooled that interest, instead focusing on getting a deal for Jesus over the line.

^*^ Man United on verge of Frenkie de Jong deal after ‘breakthrough’ in Barcelona talks

A major update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Barcelona star Frenkie de Jong has, on Sunday, been confirmed.

The name of Dutch maestro de Jong, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines across the European media across the summer to date.

This comes with the 25-year-old having emerged as the priority target of Premier League heavyweights Manchester United with a view to the 2022/23 campaign.

Any such move would see de Jong reunited with the man who oversaw the finest form of his career to date, in the form of new Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag.

And, as alluded to above, on the back of weeks of back and forth, will they, won’t they negotiations, it appears as though, at long last, Man United are closing on the club’s first signing of the summer.

This comes on the back of confirmation courtesy of the Daily Telegraph that the transfer team at Old Trafford have made a ‘breakthrough’ in talks with their counterparts at the Camp Nou.

A definitive agreement, in turn, is understood to be close to completion, in a transfer expected to be worth a fee in excess of £69 million.

In fact, the Red Devils are hopeful of sealing de Jong’s signing by the end of the coming week, a scenario which would allow for the 25-year-old to link up with his new teammates in Manchester upon pre-season kicking into full swing.

^ ^ Cristiano Ronaldo responds to David Beckham’s offer to join Inter Miami this summer

Cristiano Ronaldo is not interested in joining Inter Miami and has snubbed a move to David Beckham’s MLS outfit.

Ronaldo’s future at Old Trafford has come under fresh scrutiny with the 37-year-old said to have serious concerns over United’s progress in the transfer marker this summer.

The striker is said to have already confided to members of his close circle that he could leave in the coming months with his agent Jorge Mendes reportedly meeting with new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly where a possible move to Stamford Bridge was discussed.

A return to Sporting CP could also be on the table with the Portuguese giants eager to offer him a return to the club where he made his senior debut at 16.

According to The Daily Star, Beckham has ‘explored the chances’ of his MLS side signing Ronaldo this summer.

Manchester United v Brentford - Premier League

But the report adds Ronaldo has snubbed the offer with United also adamant he is not for sale this summer.

Ronaldo re-joined United last summer and finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 24 goals.

While he said to have concerns over the club’s ambition in the summer having also failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, United remain adamant he will remain at Old Trafford.

A senior club source told the Manchester Evening News: ‘Cristiano is not for sale. We want and fully expect him to be with us next season.’

Ronaldo insisted last month that he was ‘happy’ at Manchester United and excited to work under new boss Erik ten Hag.

‘I was and still am very happy to be here, and what I have to say to the fans is they are amazing,’ Ronaldo said.

‘Even when we lost games, they always support us, they always are with us. The supporters are always in my heart and it’s the people that we all should respect because they are always on our side.

‘For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong. As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe.

‘What I know about him [Ten Hag] is he did a fantastic job for Ajax, that he’s an experienced coach. But we need to give him time.

‘Things need to change the way he wants. I hope we have success, of course, because, if you have success, all of Manchester is going to have success as well. I wish him the best.

‘We are happy and excited, not only as players, but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let’s believe that, next year, we are going to win trophies.’

^*^ Arsenal could net financial windfall as newly-promoted side eye fringe star

Arsenal could be set for a tidy financial windfall as Premier League newsboys Nottingham Forest are eyeing one of their fringe stars, it has been reported.

Forest have already been active in the market this summer as they prepare to stave off relegation. They have broken their transfer record to sign striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin and are also aiming to wrap up a deal for Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson who has previously shone in the top-flight with Sheffield United.

Now, the Daily Mail report that Nottingham Forest are weighing up a move for Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles.

Maitland-Niles would spend the second half of 2021/22 on loan at Serie A side AS Roma, for whom he featured on 12 occasions in a number of positions.

view Maitland-Niles as a replacement for wing-back Djed Spence who helped the club win promotion last season during his loan spell from Middlesbrough but now looks set to join Tottenham on a permanent basis.

And whilst AMN has previously suggested he would rather be used as a central midfielder than as a wing-back, the majority of his appearances for Roma last term did come as a left or right-wing-back.

No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report. But as Maitland-Niles is still only 24 and English, Arsenal should be able to net a decent transfer fee for the midfielder, even if he is out of contract at the Emirates next summer.
