Footage of the opening goal netted by FC Barcelona in the club’s meeting with Atletico Madrid on Sunday afternoon has gone altogether viral online.
This comes after both Jorda Alba, heavily maligned of late, and fellow full-back Dani Alves rolled back the years in combining for an early Goal of the Month contender.
The strike in question came with just ten minutes on the clock, as Alves, on the back of some industrious work down the right on the part of Adama Traore (marking his 2nd debut for the club), clipped a clever delivery to the back post.
And Alba, from here, produced the kind of volley Marco van Basten would have been proud of, directing a stunning left-footed effort into the far top corner of Jan Oblak’s net:
Jordi Alba with an absolute BEAUTY of a volley! 😍

Gavi nods home
Barca’s comeback efforts, though, did not end simply with Alba’s sumptuous strike.
After former Blaugrana man Luis Suarez teed up Yannick Carrasco for the game’s opener inside eight minutes, Alba’s leveller was followed a short time later by the hosts turning the clash on its head.
Adama Traore proved creator in chief on this occasion, surging down the right flank, before dinking a pinpoint cross into the Atletico penalty area.
And the most unexpected of figures, in turn, got on the end of Traore’s ball in, as the diminutive Gavi rose highest to direct a deflected header home, guiding Xavi’s troops into a 2-1 lead in the process:
Barca take the lead thanks in part to brilliant work from Adama Traore to provide the assist for Gavi! 🔥
