An insight into Chelsea’s stance on signing Christopher Nkunku of RB Leipzig has been provided over the weekend.
Nkunku has been linked with many Premier League sides over the course of the current season, with Chelsea one of the teams most heavily touted.
Now, football.london report that Chelsea have watched Nkunku’s progress over the past couple of seasons and again recently and there is a long-term interest there.
However, it is added that no decision will be taken on a transfer for the French star until after the club’s takeover is completed.
Given the impressive nature of Nkunku’s current season, Chelsea’s takeover may see the west Londoners miss out on the Frenchman as there are sure to be many, many suitors for Nkunku this summer.
Nkunku impressing
And it is easy to see why when you look at Nkunku’s stats for 2021/22 so far.
Nkunku is naturally a central attacking midfielder. However, he has played in a number of positions this term, including up front in a two.
However, his most prominent role has come as an attacking midfielder in a front three – much like the role Mason Mount often takes up for Chelsea.
This has seen Nkunku score a staggering 30 goals and provide 20 assists in 46 games across all competitions this term.
Such impressive numbers is no doubt set to see Nkunku, who is under contract until 2024, command a mammoth transfer sum when the German outfit do eventually sell him.
And whilst Chelsea do have an interest in Nkunku, the Blues may be wary of spending big on a player who has impressed for RB Leipzig as Timo Werner posted similar numbers to the 24-year-old before largely flopping in England.
