The 28-year-old has been at Old Trafford since 2020, has scored 53 goals across 146 games for United and is under contract until 2026.
According to Portuguese outlet Record, Fernandes is happy at United but has not closed the door on a move if it means taking his career to the next level.
They report that Real Madrid have wanted to sign Fernandes since his days at Sporting Lisbon and have reignited their interest in him.
Real Madrid are the current champions of both Europe and Spain having won last season’s La Liga title and lifting the 2021-22 Champions League trophy.
United, meanwhile, have not won a trophy since 2017 when they lifted the Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

‘[The] Glazers’ time in Man United has really been dramatic,’ Parker told Futbin. ‘No one realised how bad it was going to end when Sir Alex Ferguson left.
‘[The] Glazers have been an absolute living nightmare, especially after Robin Van Persie and Sir Alex Ferguson left.
‘The thing I’m most concerned about is that the new owners might want to bring in their own manager and if that happens, Man United has to start from scratch again.’

Gareth Southgate’s side blocking path to quarter-finals
‘Last 16 is not the objective. We have no limits,’ says midfielder
Idrissa Gana Gueye has said there are no limits for Senegal in Qatar and the African champions’ ambitions must stretch beyond reaching the last 16 of the World Cup.
Senegal face England at the Al Bayt Stadium on Sunday having qualified for the World Cup knockout stage for the second time in their history via Tuesday’s win over Ecuador. Senegal’s best performance at a World Cup came in 2002, when they reached the quarter-finals with a team featuring their current manager, Aliou Cissé. In a year when the Lions of Teranga won the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time, Gueye says Senegal can again reach the last eight.
Croatia currently sit top of the group with four points, while Belgium need to win to have a chance of qualifying after their embarrassing 2-0 defeat to Morocco on Sunday.
The former Dortmund chief scout is currently with fellow Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart as their sporting director, but reports from Sky's Florian Plettenberg suggest he is 'open' to the switch.
Powerful Tottenham Hotspur and England footballer who was a mainstay of the Spurs double-winning team of 1960-61
The footballer Maurice Norman, a tall, powerfully built defender, who has died aged 88, was a mainstay of Tottenham Hotspur’s famous double-winning team of 1960-61 and played 23 times for England – including in the 1962 World Cup – before his career was ended prematurely by injury in a friendly match in 1965.
While at Spurs, Norman played first at right-back and then more notably at centre-half, where he was dominating in the air and a powerful tackler on the ground. He played his first game for the north London club in 1955, and remained at White Hart Lane for a decade, making 411 appearances, 357 of them in the league.
The 23-year-old has been scintillating on the pitch for his nation in Qatar and has already got three goals to his name after notching against both Denmark and Australia.
Gareth Southgate is making four changes to his team to face Wales on Tuesday (Picture: Getty Images,)
There will be four changes to England’s team as they take on Wales in Qatar on Tuesday night, with Gareth Southgate set to shuffle his pack.
Sky Sports report that the quartet of Phil Foden, Marcus Rashford, Jordan Henderson and Kyle Walker will all come into the starting XI for the crucial Group B finale at the World Cup.
All four will be starting a match for the first time this tournament, while Walker will be making his first appearance of any kind.
Southgate had fielded the same starting XI for the two first games against Iran and USA, but after the turgid goalless draw with the Americans on Friday, changes were inevitable.
It is not confirmed who will be dropped for the four players coming into the team, although the likeliest options appear to be Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Kieran Trippier.
England must only avoid a four-goal defeat or worse to make it into the last 16 of the World Cup, but they will also be keen to win the game and confirm finishing top of Group B.

England are top of the group going into the game with four points, with Iran on three, USA on two and Wales bottom of the group on one point.
This means all four teams can still qualify for the knockout stages and both games will be extremely competitive, but England’s fate is in their own hands, knowing victory over Wales secures top spot.
Wales must beat England to have any chance of progressing, but will also be relying on the result of the Iran vs USA match.
The Americans have to win their game to progress, while Iran know they are going through with a draw, as long as Wales don’t beat England.
Liverpool midfielder Henderson is set to get the nod ahead of either Jude Bellingham or Mason Mount, who both started the opening two fixtures for the Three Lions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Jadon Sancho has underwhelmed this term (Photo by Laurence Griffiths/Getty Images)
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has told Jadon Sancho that he’s unhappy with his form and has demanded to see more commitment from the winger.
The forward joined United in 2021 in a £72million deal from Dortmund after a two-year pursuit from the Red Devils.
However, Sancho’s struggled to replicate the form that saw United pursue him for such a long time and he has just eight goals to his name in 52 appearances.
Sancho started the season as a regular in a front three alongside Marcus Rashford and the likes of Anthony Martial and Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, he featured just twice as a substitute in United’s last five appearances before the World Cup and was completely absent from three of those matches.
With Ronaldo now out of the picture, United’s resources in attack are going to be more squeezed than ever.

Sancho was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, which should serve as a wake-up call for the winger.
But AS say Ten Hag has already told Sancho that he’s not happy with his form and that he wants to see more ‘commitment’ in the rest of the season.
Sancho is now said to be working to impress Ten Hag and he was in Holland last week to work with coaches recommended by the Dutchman.
Though Sancho’s quality is not in doubt, his application, industry and focus have been questioned.
Should United fail to sign a forward in January, Rashford will likely be used more in a central position meaning Alejandro Garnacho will be Sancho’s most likely competitor.
American supporters at the tournament praise the infrastructure and welcome of the hosts although the lack of beer remains a universal gripe
The myriad controversies that have come to dwarf the Qatar World Cup have not kept American fans from turning out in droves, filling bustling public spaces like the Doha corniche and the Souq Wahif clad in USA shirts and stars-and-stripes-patterned regalia.
While Fifa has not specified how many tickets it sold directly to US supporters, it has confirmed the United States ranked third in tickets sold by country of residence behind Qatar and Saudi Arabia and ahead of Mexico, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.
42-year-old previously worked at club as assistant
Replaces Giovanni van Bronckhorst in dugout
Rangers have announced the appointment of Mick Beale as their new manager.
The 42-year-old, who was previously assistant to Steven Gerrard at Ibrox, has left his role as QPR boss to take over from Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was sacked last week.
With a jam-packed schedule in the lead up to the tournament, many games were postponed, with midweek evenings already bookmarked for Champions League and cup competitions.
Harry Redknapp has called upon Gareth Southgate to utilise Jack Grealish and Phil Foden, noting other nations would build their team around the Man City pair.
Ghana kept their World Cup hopes alive today with a dramatic win against South Korea in Al Rayyan, Qatar.
Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudos gave Ghana a two-goal lead in the first half but two goals in three minutes from Cho Gue-sung put South Korea back on level terms on the hour-mark.
With Uruguay and Portugal making up the rest of the group, both Ghana and South Korea needed three points today to boost their chances of qualifying going into the final group stage clash.
And it was Ghana that secured a crucial three points when Kudos grabbed his second of the afternoon to break Korean hearts.
There was over 43,000 packed inside the Education City Stadium to watch the two teams and there was plenty of mixing in the stands between the sets of supporters.
But one Ghanaian supporter let fever-pitch atmosphere spill over at full-time when, instead of simply celebrating his country’s victory, he chose to mark the win in front of three South Korean fans.
While one supporter chose to completely ignore him, another sarcastically applauded his behaviour and the third simply put her thumb up.
Ghana face old adversaries Uruguay in their final group match and they’ll be looking for revenge on the South Americans after their defeat in the 2010 World Cup quarter-finals.
Luis Suarez famously blocked a goal-bound effort with his hands in the final minute of the clash in 2010 and he watched on from the sidelines following his red card as Asamoah Gyan skied his penalty.
Uruguay then beat Ghana in a penalty shootout and in doing so blocked the country from becoming the first African nation to reach the semi-final stage of the World Cup.

Morocco boss Walid Regragui has praised Hakim Ziyech’s Man-of-the-Match performance against Belgium on Sunday and explained goalkeeper Bono’s curious disappearance just before kick-off.
The African side struck twice late on through Abdelhamid Sabiri and Zakaria Aboukhlal to pull off one of the shocks of the World Cup so far, with Belgium having been ranked number two in the world according to FIFA’s rankings.
Although he did not get on the scoresheet, Chelsea winger Ziyech was a livewire throughout the match, having a goal disallowed for offside in the first half before setting up Aboukhlal’s late strike with a lovely dribble and cross.
Ziyech had fallen out with previous Morocco boss Vahid Halilhodzic and been ostracised from the team, but he returned to the fold under Regragui and has fully vindicated his position in the side according to his manager.
‘You know this guy, he is incredible,’ said Regragui at his post-match press conference.
‘The spirit, when he came back into the national team, it came back. What a lot of people say about him is that he’s a crazy guy, a difficult guy to manage, he can’t help the team.
‘But for me what I see is that when you give him love and confidence, he can die for you. And that is what I give him.
Ziyech was named Man of the Match against Belgium (Picture: Getty)
‘And he returned to me my confidence and the confidence of the fans of Morocco, because a lot of fans of Morocco wanted Hakim to come back into the team and he knew that.
‘But he’s a key player, the same with Sofiane [Boufal], and when you have these players on the field – the same with Achraf [Hakimi] and [Noussair] Mazraoui – it’s a different team, full of big players, playing in big teams in Europe.
‘And you see he [Ziyech] is a different player with the national team. He’s our leader. The role of the coach is to give him confidence, the same with the staff.’
One big player who was not on the field against Belgium was goalkeeper Yassine ‘Bono’ Bounou, who walked out with the team, sung the national anthem and then disappeared down the tunnel before kick-off.
It took BBC’s commentators 38 minutes to notice, but the Sevilla shot-stopper was replaced in the starting line-up at the very last minute with Munir Mohamedi coming in instead.
Explaining what happened with Bono, Regragui told beIN Sports: ‘He took a whack against Croatia, he was unsteady.
‘We tried until the last moment but after the warm-up, just before the match, he did not feel good and he had the honesty to give way to someone else. If you want to be in my squad you have to be 100% and Yassine understood that and gave up his place to Munir, who had a great game.’
Wayne Rooney has revealed the England team he would pick (Picture: Getty)
Wayne Rooney has urged Gareth Southgate to make three changes for England’s final World Cup group game against Wales and rated the Three Lions’ chances of lifting the trophy in Qatar.
England thrashed Iran 6-2 in their opening match of the tournament but were brought back down to earth on Friday night as they failed to beat USA.
Southgate’s side remain favourites to top Group B – anything less than a three-goal defeat guarantees England’s place in the next round – but the manner of the USA stalemate has raised concerns over their World Cup credentials.
Rooney, the nation’s all-time top goalscorer, believes England have a ‘good chance’ of winning the World Cup but has urged Southgate to ring the changes for their clash with Wales on Tuesday night.
The former Manchester United striker reckons Three Lions captain Harry Kane should be rested ahead of a huge last-16 encounter and says Chelsea’s Mason Mount should be dropped.
That would allow Manchester City star Phil Foden to get his first start of the tournament after several pundits questioned his absence against USA.
Writing in a column for The Times, Rooney said: ‘England’s performance was not great on Friday and there is no getting away from the fact that they will need to play a lot better to have a chance of winning this World Cup.

‘Gareth Southgate needs to make changes for Tuesday’s game with Wales and given that it would almost take a miracle not to qualify, it’s the perfect opportunity for him to give minutes to players who have not been used much so far.
‘Top of the list is Phil Foden. I found it very strange that Foden did not come on as a substitute against the USA. He would be a key part of my starting XI if I were the England boss. Technically, he is the best footballer England have.
‘I think if you have a talent like Foden, you simply have to play him. He is now a different player from the one we saw at Euro 2020, when he struggled to make an impact.
‘He is more mature and came into this tournament on the back of a long period of brilliant performances for Manchester City. He has the form to go with the ability.
‘If I were him, I would be very frustrated that I didn’t get on the pitch at any stage of Friday’s game.
‘My starting XI would have Foden on the left and Bukayo Saka competing with Raheem Sterling for a place on the right.
‘I would also bring in another holding midfielder to play alongside Declan Rice, releasing Jude Bellingham to play as a No 10.’
Rooney, who scored 53 goals in 120 appearances for England, added: ‘For the Wales game, I would also take out Mason Mount and bring in Kalvin Phillips if he is fit, and otherwise Jordan Henderson.
Rooney believes England must recall Phil Foden (Picture: Getty)
‘I know Mount did very well against Iran and that he gives you a lot in terms of work rate and energy, but sometimes you need to just let your flair players and your better footballers go and influence games.
‘That is why, if I were the England manager, I would make sure to get Foden on the pitch. Another of Foden’s strengths is his flexibility. If you need to change a game without making a substitution you can do that with Foden, because you can bring him inside if you need to, or you can play him out wide.
‘The other big change I would make for the Wales match would be to rest Harry Kane. Against the USA, he looked like he may have been suffering the effects of a heavy knock he took in the Iran game.
‘It was from a tackle in the second half and in that match I felt that Gareth should have considered taking him off at half-time. England were leading 3-0, the game was already won and Harry is our most important player.
‘When there are opportunities to protect him and help him stay fit, I believe Gareth should take them — and that is why I would keep Harry on the bench against Wales.’
England remain one of the favourites to win the World Cup alongside the likes of Brazil, France and Spain.
Assessing England’s chances after their first two games in Qatar, Rooney said: ‘My overall message to everyone who follows England? Keep calm.
‘Before the tournament, if you had offered England the chance to have four points after two games and be practically through to the knockout rounds, they would have taken it.
USA outplayed England in the Group B clash (Picture: Getty)
‘The clean sheet against the USA is something to build on, and getting a decent result while not playing so well still has its positives.
‘The overall picture for England is that we have seen nothing to fear in the rest of the tournament. England have a great blend of youth and experience and arguably the best squad at the World Cup in terms of quality.
‘I think you still need a bit of luck, with draws and in individual games, but I do think England have still got a good chance in Qatar.’
While England are on the verge of qualifying for the last-16, Wales will need to beat their neighbours to stand a chance of progressing in Qatar, having lost to Iran following an opening draw against USA.
Scotland and British and Irish Lions legend died over the weekend from motor neurone disease
Doddie Weir, the former Scotland and British and Irish Lions rugby union player who died over the weekend from motor neurone disease, leaves “a lasting legacy” and will, admirers said, be remembered as a man who helped transform people’s understanding of the disease.
Weir’s death aged 52 was announced by his family on Saturday. His wife, Kathy, said he was “an inspirational force of nature”.

Talks to sell Liverpool are well underway (Shutterstock)
Liverpool have held talks with two consortiums from Saudi Arabia and Qatar over a £3 billion takeover, according to reports.
Earlier this month, Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group confirmed that the club is up for sale.
And according to MailOnline, two companies from the Middle East have expressed an interest in buying Liverpool.
It’s understood that the companies from Saudi Arabia and Qatar are private and are not state-backed.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund currently owns 80 per cent of Newcastle and injected another £71m into the Premier League club earlier this month.

Meanwhile, the Glazer family announced this week that Manchester United are also up for sale.
And former United defender Gary Neville believes the decision from the Glazers will have an impact on Liverpool’s sale.
‘I don’t want to be disrespectful to Liverpool, at all, because they are a massive football club,’ Neville told Sky Sports on Sunday.
‘You look at the height of English football, when it comes to viewing figures, fans and commercial revenue, it’s Manchester United and Liverpool at the top.
‘Forget that Manchester City creates a higher revenue, naturally, what would sort of be through traditional means, Manchester United and Liverpool are the two biggest clubs in the country, by a mile.
‘But Manchester United will be more sought-after and will fetch a higher price than Liverpool, just because of its might. Unless Liverpool have got something sorted, they have to probably wait a little bit because the buyers are going to go to Manchester United, unless they are a Liverpool fan.
‘They [Liverpool] are in a better position, on and off the field, 100%. We have said that for the last four or five years. But it’s not arrogance, you can’t deny the scale of Manchester United. You just can’t.’
Graham Arnold praised the Socceroos for winning Australia’s first World Cup match in 12 years but put a lid on celebrations, stating they had “done nothing” yet before Wednesday’s decisive final group fixture against Denmark.
The coach also bit back at critics, including former national team players, who have repeatedly questioned his selections and tactics, saying “they have no effect on my life”.

Reflecting on the Three Lions' disappointing display, Sportsmail's experts felt the team looked 'knackered' and played like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Manchester United.

The World Cup 2022 is in full swing, and the England football team – led by manager Gareth Southgate – will be hopeful of ending 50-plus years of hurt by going all the way to lifting the trophy.
England have only ever won the competition once but came close in Russia 2018 when Harry Kane captained the side to the semi-finals.
But after an emphatic opening game victory against Iran, hopes are already beginning to rise for the 2022 campaign as the team faces the USA.
But just when did England last win the World Cup, and what was the final score?
When did England win the World Cup and what was the score?
England claimed a 4-2 victory over West Germany on July 30, 1966, making them the Fifa World Cup champions that year.
An audience of 32.3 million viewers originally tuned in to watch the Fifa World Cup Final between England and West Germany, which took place at Wembley arena in London – with a crowd of 96,924 in the stands.
The nail biting match, which went into overtime after German player Wolfgang Weber scored an 89th-minute equaliser to tie the game, is one of the most watched television programmes in history.
The England squad was led by team captain, central defender Bobby Moore and the winning goals were scored by just two players; Martin Peters and legendary hat-trick hero Geoff Hurst.
Hurst sealed England’s victory that day, scoring the two extra-time goals that won England the 1966 World Cup title.
England manager Alf Ramsey’s full squad for the match against Germany in 1966 World Cup Final was as follows:
Gareth Bale was poor as Wales were beaten 2-0 by Iran at the World Cup on Friday (Picture: Getty)
Gabby Agbonlahor has slammed Gareth Bale for his poor performance against Iran and has called out Wales stars for disrespecting England.
Bale could not help Wales as they lost 2-0 to Iran in their second World Cup Group B match in Qatar following two dramatic late goals.
Wales’ hopes of qualifying for the last 16 now hang by a thread and they must beat England on Tuesday to have any chance of making it to the next round.
Englishman Agbonlahor feels Bale was ‘poor’ in the defeat to Iran and called out Wales duo Kieffer Moore and Sorba Thomas for what they said about England in the build-up to the tournament.
‘Shocking from Wales, but a lot of credit to Iran,’ Agbonlahor told talkSPORT. ‘They’re no mugs and they showed that, they deserved the three points.
‘Kieffer Moore likes to talk about how he wants to knock England out, but doesn’t show it on the pitch.
‘Gareth Bale was poor again today, he didn’t turn up. Him and Aaron Ramsey didn’t get on the ball, didn’t try to take anyone on.
‘What they showed in the second half against the USA, it was promising, but to watch them tonight… they are [going] out now.
‘To go out like this, it is shameful really. How can you have players before the World Cup like Kieffer Moore saying, ‘I can’t wait to knock England out’.
‘Sorba Thomas [saying], ‘We don’t fear England, why can’t we be the ones to knock them out?’
‘Players shouldn’t talk like that before a tournament. You concentrate on playing.
‘Now they’ve got their medicine, and England will give them a good beating next week. They’ll be out.’
Wales' World Cup hopes are hanging by a thread after they were beaten by two stoppage time Iran goals after their goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off.
Goals from Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish helped the Three Lions to a 6-2 victory to put them in a commanding position in Group B.
Gareth Southgate’s men now turn their attention to their second group fixture against the USA, knowing that three points against the Americans will be enough to book their spot in the round of 16.

What TV channel will the England games be on?
The Three Lions’ match with the USA will be shown live on ITV1, with coverage getting underway from 6.05pm.
The clash with the Americans will also be available to live stream on ITVX and the ITV Hub.
Meanwhile, England’s crunch home nations derby with Wales will be broadcast on BBC One from 6pm.
Fans will be able to live stream the game on the BBC iPlayer.
Who and when could England play in the knockout rounds?
Should England make it out of Group B, they will take on one of Qatar, Ecuador, Senegal or the Netherlands from Group A in the round of 16.
If they finish first in the group, they will face the runners-up from Group A on Sunday, December 4.
However, a second placed finish for England will see them play the Group A winners on Saturday, December 3.

If England make it through to the round of 16 as group winners, they could be set for a clash with France on Saturday, December 10 in the quarter-finals assuming Didier Deschamps’ side overcome one of Argentina, Mexico, Poland or Saudi Arabia in their last 16 tie.
England would then likely face the winners of Groups F and H – Belgium or Portugal – in the semi-final on Wednesday, December 14.
And if the Three Lions make it all the way to final, they would likely face Brazil, Spain or Germany for a shot at World Cup glory on Sunday, December 18.

Qatar hosting the 2022 World cup has been a controversial decision, to say the least.
From allegations of bribery in the FIFA selection process to the death of migrant workers and criticism of the country’s violations of human rights and position on LGBTQ+ issues, this year’s World Cup has been about so much more than football.
Qatar hosting the tournament has also meant the games are being played in autumn/winter rather than the traditional summer window, causing the likes of the Premier League to hit pause.
The tournament takes place every four years and the 2026 competition will return to having games in the summer. But when did England last host the World Cup?
Here is everything you need to know…
When did England last host the World Cup?
It has been over 50 years since England last hosted the World Cup, with the country last playing host in 1966.
Incidentally, that was also the last time that the England national team won the World Cup.

The England team faced West Germany in London’s Wembley Stadium on July 30, 1966.
It was a match for the history books, as Geoff Hurst scored the only ever World Cup final hat-trick to help England win the game 4-2.
England has attempted to host the World Cup on a couple of occasions since but lost out in the bidding process each time.
They lost out to Germany in their bid to host the 2006 FIFA World Cup and more recently were unsuccessful in a bid to host the 2018 World Cup, which ended up being held in Russia.

The pan-North American World Cup will feature 16 cities across the continent and is the first time the three countries have shared hosting duties for the same tournament.
The host for the 2030 World Cup is yet to be decided, but a bid has already been abandoned by the United Kingdom and Ireland after the football associations across the countries decided to focus on a bid for Euro 2028 instead.
