Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has criticised Leeds United’s decision to sack Jesse Marsch and warned the American’s departure will not magically cure the club’s problems.

Marsch was sacked on Monday after a torrid run of results, which has seen Leeds go without a win since November 5th.

The American replaced Marcelo Bielsa less than a year ago and he managed to keep the side in the Premier League last season.

However, Marsch failed to win over the fans, and struggled to emerge from the shadow of Bielsa.

Leeds face rivals Manchester United twice in the next five days and a permanent manager is unlikely to be in place before the game at Elland Road on Sunday.

And Ten Hag has criticised the decision, saying it is no guarantee of Leeds’ survival.

‘It’s always sad if a manager is a colleague and gets sacked, in general I don’t believe in it that if you sack a manager you get better results,’ said Ten Hag.

‘Most of the time, it doesn’t work. Let managers do their work, finish their work and then make a good evaluation.

‘Obviously, the pressure is high with the decision makers in football clubs and they turn.

‘But if you see the facts, you see the stats, most of the time it doesn’t work out well.’
