Roy Hodgson admitted that it was a 'really big surprise' to be asked to come out of retirement to manage his former club Crystal Palace as they battle relegation from the Premier League. The 75 year-old has returned to the Selhurst Park dugout for the final 10 matches of the season after Patrick Vieira, who replaced Hodgson in July 2021, was sacked following a 12-match winless run in all competitions.
His managerial career has spanned more than 45 years and includes stints at Internazionale, Blackburn, Fulham, Liverpool, West Bromwich Albion and Palace, while he has also led the national sides of England, Switzerland, United Arab Emirates and Finland. Hodgson has managed six clubs in the Premier League, taking charge of 382 games and already holds the record for being the competition's oldest manager.
