Chelsea have made an incredible gesture to Diogo Jota’s family after the tragic death of the Liverpool forward and his brother Andre Silva in July.
Jota, 28, and his brother, 25, were killed in a car crash in the province of Zamora in Spain last month, leading to tributes from all over the world.
Liverpool paid tribute to Jota in their first match back at Anfield since his death in August before a pre-season friendly match against Athletic Bilbao.
There was another tribute for Jota ahead of Liverpool’s Community Shield clash with Crystal Palace at Wembley on Sunday but it was ‘spoiled’ by a small section of fans, with a moment of silence interrupted and cut short.

Chelsea have now decided to make a financial donation to Jota’s family in an incredible gesture from the west London club.
The Blues won the Club World Cup this summer and are using a portion of the players’ bonuses.

How much are Chelsea donating to Jota’s family?
Chelsea earned an estimated £84.4m for winning the tournament in the United States after beating French side Paris Saint-Germain in the final.
The Blues allocated £11.4m of their winnings to be split among stars who featured at the Club World Cup – which is around $500k (£368k) per player.

A joint decision from Chelsea and the club’s players has now been made that an equal payment will be donated to Jota’s family.
Slot: We’ll always carry Jota with us in our hearts
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot paid tribute to Jota in his programme notes ahead of the Reds’ friendly against Athletic Bilbao earlier this month.
‘It has been a tough time for everyone connected with the club, but especially for Diogo’s family, his wife, his children and friends,’ Slot wrote.
‘We cannot imagine the pain that they have been going through, and the club will continue to give them all the support they can going forward.
‘We will always carry him with us in our hearts, in our thoughts, wherever we go.
‘Diogo’s passing has had a big impact on us all, but what has been so important has been the love and care shown from the football world, and in particular of course the Liverpool FC community.’
Jota played a total of 182 games for Liverpool from 2020 to 2025, scoring 65 goals and registering 26 assists.
