Newcastle United are expected to be busy in the final week of the transfer window, and it may be a case of holding onto their hats for much of the Magpie fanbase.
However, with 5 days left until the deadline, Eddie Howe and co. have been dealt a double defensive transfer blow.
This comes initially as Brighton have rejected the newly-rich club’s bid for Dan Burn, thought to have been around 10 million pounds.

However, they are expected to return with a second bid, although it remains unclear just how far they are willing to go in order to secure the in-form Seagull.

On another disappointing note, it appears as though their pursuit of Robin Gosens has come to an unfortunate end, with Inter Milan having reached a deal to take him to the San Siro for a fee of 25 million euros.

This could see Newcastle look elsewhere for defensive reinforcements, but there is better news further up the pitch.
Bruno Guimaraes latest
Now, Lyon have put out a statement categorically denying that any agreement had been reached.
However, the club are regular exponents of this negotiation tactic: similar statements went out around Ferland Mendy and Alexandre Lacazette before both departed the club.

And, as per the reliable David Ornstein, the Brazilian is set to undergo a medical while on international duty ahead of a move to Tyneside.

If completed, it would be quite the statement signing under the new regime, given that just six months ago the Magpies could not stump up the loan fee for Hamza Choudury.
