Ruben Dias is set to miss up to six weeks of action due to a hamstring injury, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has revealed.
The defender picked up the injury in the FA Cup fifth-round win over Peterborough in midweek and was taken off at half-time.
Dias has been an integral part of City’s title push this season, forming part of a defence that has conceded just 17 top-flight goals.
But the Portugal international will now face an extended spell on the sidelines, ahead of the Manchester derby on Sunday and the all-important title run-in.
Current league leaders City are due to play title rivals Liverpool on April 10, which given the timeframe Guardiola has provided, makes Dias a doubt for that clash.
‘Muscular. Hamstring. Four to six weeks,’ Guardiola told reporters of the centre-back’s injury on Friday.
‘It happens. In other seasons our best players have been out for eight or nine months like Kevin. I’d love him but he’s not there, I will not cry.
‘We have just two central defenders but it happens. It is what it is. We have decent players available. People say we were lucky with Covid.
‘We have 14-15 players. With these players we are going to fight and try to play good. Impossible to fight if you don’t play good.
‘We try to play good and win our game with our people. We play with our people and hopefully our people support as they always do.’
