Former Arsenal and Netherlands winger Marc Overmars was admitted to hospital on Thursday after suffering a ‘mild stroke’.
Overmars – now 49 – won the Premier League and FA Cup with Arsenal after lifting three Eredivisie titles with Ajax.
The ex-Barcelona star was a mainstay in the Netherlands side throughout the 1990s, earning 86 caps for his country.
Since retiring in 2009, Overmars has worked at Ajax and Royal Antwerp in roles as director of football.
A statement from his current club, Royal Antwerp, said: ‘Marc Overmars, director of football affairs at RAFC, became unwell last night and was admitted to hospital with a mild stroke.
‘Marc is doing well in the meantime, but will have to take it easy for a while.
‘Marc and his family focus on his recovery and do not wish to comment further. RAFC wishes Marc a speedy recovery!’
Replying to the message, Ajax said: ‘Wishing you strength and strength with your recovery, Marc.’
