Aston Villa are in talks to re-sign midfielder Douglas Luiz, but Chelsea also see him as a target before the January transfer window closes.
The 27-year-old is on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, moving to the City Ground in August on a year-long deal.
The Brazil international has made 14 appearances in all competitions, but just eight in the Premier League, having been hampered by hamstring problems earlier in the campaign.
It has been a fairly forgettable time at Forest so far, but clearly his reputation has not been diminished as both Villa and Chelsea are keen to snap him up this month.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Aston Villa are in ‘active talks’ with Juventus and negotiations are ongoing, although they are also looking at other options in midfield.
Sky Sports report that Luiz can switch loan clubs, while if a permanent deal was agreed it would cost Villa ‘only a fraction of the £43m (€50m)’ they sold him to Juventus for in 2024.
Chelsea are interested in loaning Luiz as they also look to bolster their options in central midfield.

Luiz was a key player for the Villains from 2019-24 after joining from Manchester City, making 204 appearances for the club and scoring 22 goals.
His final season in 2023/24 saw him turn out 53 times in all competitions and score 10 goals.
The Brazilian made a big-money move to Turin in the summer of 2024 but it did not really work out and returned to the Premier League on loan this season after making 27 appearances for Juve.

Villa are keen to add to their midfield options after a season-ending injury for Boubacar Kamara, while John McGinn is also out injured.
Unai Emery’s side remains in Premier League title contention and in a strong position in the Europa League as well.
They sit third in the Premier League and second in the Europa League tables, in what could be an historic season for the club.

The Villains are also on the brink of re-signing another former player in Tammy Abraham, who looks set to join from Besiktas.
The England international has made his loan move to Besiktas from Roma permanent for just over £11m, with Villa due to then pay the Turkish side £18m for his services.
The 28-year-old has scored 13 goals in 26 games for Besiktas this season, having scored 10 last season on loan at AC Milan.
The striker enjoyed a year on loan at Villa Park in 2018/19 when he scored 25 goals in 37 Championship appearances.
