Enzo Maresca has left his role as Chelsea manager with immediate effect.

Maresca took over at Stamford Bridge in June 2024 and his current contract with the Blues ran until 2029.

The Italian guided Chelsea to the Conference League title last season while Chelsea won the Club World Cup under Maresca over the summer.

Chelsea started this season strongly but have won just one of their past seven league matches to slip 15 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

There has also been tension at board level after Maresca said ‘many people’ had created his ‘worst 48 hours’ since joining the club after Chelsea beat Everton last month.

Maresca has also been linked with Premier League rivals Manchester City as a successor to Pep Guardiola, who he previously assisted at the Etihad Stadium.

Ironically it is Man City who Chelsea face next but it remains to be seen who will be in the Blues’ dugout on Sunday after Maresca’s departure.

A statement from the Premier League club read: ‘Chelsea Football Club and Head Coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.

‘During his time at the Club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

‘Those achievements will remain an important part of the Club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the Club.

Maresca’s final game in charge of Chelsea was a 2-2 draw with struggling Bournemouth on Tuesday.

The 45-year-old’s team were booed off after the frustrating stalemate, while Chelsea fans jeered Maresca’s decision to take off goalscorer Cole Palmer as the home side chased a winner.
