Manchester United have sacked head coach Ruben Amorim after a dramatic breakdown in relations with the club’s leadership team.
Amorim made an explosive statement to the United board after the 1-1 draw at Leeds on Sunday, suggesting he would be leaving in 18 months, with the club currently sixth in the Premier League table after 20 games.
But Amorim has now officially been sacked by United after 14 months in charge of the club with U18s coach Darren Fletcher taking charge on an interim basis.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner is the bookies’ current favourite to become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager.
‘Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United,’ the club said in a statement on Monday.
‘Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
‘With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change.
