Tottenham are interested in FC Barcelona and Netherlands forward Memphis Depay, according to reports coming out of Spain
Depay would join the Spanish powerhouse on a free transfer this past summer after his contract with Lyon expired.
Depay would go on to start 2021/22 as Barca’s main striker, scoring four and assisting two in his first eight La Liga outings of the campaign.
However, due to a combination of injury, a change in manager and a busy January for Barcelona, Depay is now a fringe star.
The 28-year-old has scored twice in his last four league games, but has not been handed more than 19 minutes of action in any of those matches.
Instead, La Blaugrana have been relying on Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for most of their goals.
So, with Depay now firmly down the striker pecking order in Catalonia, could he be moved on this summer?
The Express citing Mundo Deportivo report that Tottenham have made an offer for Depay. No potential transfer fee is mentioned in the report.
Should Tottenham sign Depay?
If Tottenham do end up signing Depay it would probably be a smart move as Spurs have, for many years now, lacked a decent back-up option to Harry Kane.
The presence of another centre-forward could also allow Antonio Conte to switch to a 3-5-2 instead of his current 3-4-3.
If Depay is being targeted as a replacement for Harry Kane, though, the Lilywhites should look elsewhere as he has never been able to perform consistently at the highest level for a big club, struggling massively during his last spell in England with Manchester United.
